It isn't everyday that a company can offer every member of its team a promotion.
But that's what happens when you can be confident of impending market dominance, I suppose. With the last remaining minutes of the week ticking away, Lincoln came round to give us the good news. "We're all managers" was the matter-of-fact way in which he declared his unflinching trust in his workforce and brought another productive Friday to a happily optimistic finale.
Yet what did the sudden rise in position mean? Could it be that, suddenly, each askMK employee would be given a Porche 9/11 to drive as a courtesy car? Or rights to stay in a Tuscan villa on company expenses? Alas, not yet. Could it be, then, that we would be given a gold-encrusted whip and twenty four under-paid minions with whom we could act as dictatorially as we saw fit? Obviously that would be illegal, immoral and was not what Lincoln (a morally upright man of the highest order) could mean.
So what then? What was it that our impromptu promotions meant? How would they effect our daily working lives? The answer lies in the way we work. As each new client joins the askMK.NET community our workload increases and we need to be as dedicated and efficient as ever. To do this we firstly need to trust unwaveringly in each other and, secondly, to understand our own personal strengths. As nobody can edit and produce film as strongly as they can, Dean and Geoff have become managers of this integral part of our company. Similarly, Helen's role lies at the heart of the company's running- ensuring that the organisational and logistical elements of askMK are dealt with- so her's is an equally managerial role. Lincoln's idea means that, not only do we understand our own importance to the company, but that we recognise that each member of the team is there for a reason: we are all special!
There we have it, then. On a disappointingly-cloudy Friday afternoon in August, askMK benefited from a mass promotion like no other. Yes, the cars and holiday homes will come (as, askMK.NET fulfills its potential we may even have streets, schools and parks named after us) but, for now, our promotions mean something even more than that. Though it may sound cheesier than a lump of brie watching Titanic, we are a team, we are all important, and we are all going to make askMK a success.
Together.
